In his address, Indian External Affairs Minister SM
Krishna said some countries are spreading a "dangerous canard"
that the developing countries are coming in the way of
conclusion of the global trade talks. "This is a dangerous
canard that deserves to be exposed," Krishna said.
He said India always stood for completion of the Doha
Round talks which has to remain focused on the development
dimension.
Both Krishna and Sharma told the non-residential Indians
(NRIs) and the people of Indian origin (PIOs) that the
country's economy weathered the storm of global economic
crisis better than several other nations. India remained an
attractive destination even in the backdrop of the global
recession, Sharma said.
An Unctad report placed India among the top three
preferred FDI destinations, he said, adding "we are determined
to maintain that pace."
The country received a total of USD 27.3 billion in
2008-09.In the first eight months of the current fiscal, the
FDI inflows were USD 19.5 billion. PTI
