OANA Award for Excellence in News Agency Quality is officially started

OANA is glad to announce a yearly “Award for Excellence in News Agency Quality”! The award is designed to further experience exchange between OANA members and to improve the quality of making news. Contributions submitted can address editorial, commercial, financial, technical etc matters. The award is open for all categories of employees at member news agencies. EBM members have the authority to decide the winner. The winner will be awarded and invited to the General Assembly or EBM. The winner's achievement will be shared with all OANA members. All the details about the award you can find in Statutes. The award which will define the winner of 2014 is officially started.

OANA AWARD “EXCELLENCE IN NEWS AGENCY QUALITY” STATUTES

1. Mission

The Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) is a forum for exchange of experiences and know-how for member news agencies. The OANA was founded in 1961. OANA comprises around 43 news agencies from 35 different parts of Asia-Pacific region. To observe the importance of high quality news agency services, providing experience exchange between OANA members TASS introduces the yearly “OANA Award for Excellence in News Agency Quality”. This annual prize is awarded an employee or a team of employees at one of the member agencies of OANA, who in a distinguished way has/have contributed to improving the standard of quality of her/his/their agency during the past working year. Contributions submitted can address editorial, commercial, financial, technical etc matters and the award is open for all categories of employees at news agencies. Special attention is paid to contributions that could be useful also for other OANA member agencies..

2. Jury

Decisions about the honour are taken by a Jury chaired by the acting President of OANA and comprising the members of the OANA Executive Board. The quorum for the conduct of business within the Jury shall be seven (7) members votes. Voting can be done remotely by filling in the voting letterform. Decisions are taken by majority. The Jury can decide to cancel the OANA Award for one year. The decisions of the Jury are final.

3. Submission

The OANA Jury shall no later than four (4) months before OANA General Assembly or EBM invite all member agencies to submit applications. Applications shall be sent in writing by the respective news agency’s CEO to the OANA secretariat no later than three (3) months before OANA General Assembly or EBM. Each submission shall include a comprehensive description of the contribution of the candidate(s) and a brief CV for the candidate(s).

4. The award

The winner of the award shall be announced no later than two (2) months before the OANA General Assembly or Executive Board Meeting. Announcing the winner, the OANA secretariat distributes a press release to all member agencies asking them to please include the announcement in their news services. The press release is also published in the OANA website. The award is a diploma and 1 000 US dollars from OANA annual fee fund. Winner will be invited to the General Assembly or EBM. Travel costs are paid by the winner agency while the hosting organization will settle his accommodation expenses.
