The monument of Dashdorj NATSAGDORJ, a famous Mongolian poet, writer and founder of modern Mongolian literature, was replaced from the National Amusement Park to the front of the “Ulaanbaatar” Hotel. Before, a monument of communist leader Vladimir Ilyich Lenini stood at this spot. The statue of Lenin was opened on November 26, 1954 when former socialist Mongolia had deified Lenin as Chinggis Khaan. After collapse of communism in Mongolia at the end of 1980s, a statue of Lenin was came a stand for over 20 years in Ulaanbaatar as remembering the socialism era. Even so, four meters of communist memorial monument with having 3 meters of marble base was dismantled a few years ago. It is said that Lenin statue was sold for 55 million tugrug in an auction for a historic collection.
Known as one of the best-known figures in Mongolian literature, Natsagdorj was the founder of Mongolian Writers Union and a prominent writer, poet and playwright.
