A Mongolia-Germany joint institute for technology will be established in Mongolia. It is an outcome of the proposal that was proposed during visits of Mongolia's President Ts.Elbegdorj and Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel in 2011 and 2012.
A memorandum on mutually approving a concept of establishing this institute was established December 7 between Mongolia's Ministry of Education and Sciences and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
At a task from Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, a research group with officials of the GIZ and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) worked here November 25-December 7 to hold meetings with representatives of the state organizations and entities, together with a Mongolian working group. The meetings resulted in working out a concept of the institute, this has become a basis for the above decision at intergovernmental level. As expected, activities of the joint institute will start in the academic years of 2013-2014.
The concept says that a working language of the Mongolia-Germany Institute of Technology will be English, the institute's main purposes are to introduce the German theory combined with practice and training standards mixed with practice in the higher education sector of Mongolia. The institute will also prepare engineering and technological professionals.
Within the Mongolia-Germany intergovernmental cooperation agreement, the German side will give support the institute's establishment. The Ministry of Education and Sciences considers that the institute will contribute to a quality reform of the Mongolian higher education sector.
