Bahrain maintains Arab lead in Hangzhou

Hangzhou, Oct. 1 (BNA): Bahrain continued to stay ahead among Arab countries participating in the 19th Asian Games in Hanghzou, China, after Runner Winfred Yavi clinched gold in the Women's 1500m race with a time of 4:11.65 minutes, increasing Bahrain's gold medal count to four.
Marta Yota claimed bronze in the same race.
Bahrain has so far earned eight medals in Hanghzou: four gold, one silver and three bronze.
His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of the Cabinet Affairs Ministry, Vice President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) and head of Bahrain's Mission to the Hangzhou Asiad; presented Yavi, second place winner Indian Harmilan Bains and Yota with their medals.
HH Shaikh Isa attended the Women 1500m race and other evening time competitions alongside BOC Secretary General Faris Mustafa Al Koohejim Bahrain Mission Director Ahmed Abdul Ghaffar and members of the delegation.
Bahrain's Salwa Eid and Edidiong Ofonime qualified to Women 200m final. Eid came first in her group with a time of 23.74 seconds, while Ofonime clocked in 23.35 seconds in her group. The Final race will be held tomorrow at 2:45pm (Bahrain timing).
Saeed Al Khaldi qualified to the Men 200m final race after clocking in 23.33 seconds in the first heat and 20.61 in the second. The Final race will be held tomorrow at 2:55pm (Bahrain timing).
In handball, Bahrain led its group after defeating Kuwait with a score of 34-25, setting hopes high to win gold.
