75 Per Cent Malaysians Remian Loyal to Malaysian-Made Products

KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 (Bernama) -- Seventy-five per cent of Malaysians in the middle-class category and above are still loyal to Malaysian-made products, Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said. He said the finding was made through a survey published in the American Journal of Scientific Research in 2010 on the perception of Malaysian consumers for international brands. "The remaining 25 per cent of Malaysians are fond of buying well-known international brands," he said at the opening of the exposition on Buy Malaysian Products by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin here Friday. Ismail Sabri said the survey also found that 55 per cent of the young Malaysians were willing to spend on quality local products. "This means that the effort by the ministry in promoting the buy Malaysia products has succeeded in changing the consumers' perception for Malaysian-made products," he added. He said efforts would continue to be made by the ministry to instill in the minds of the Malaysian society that the quality and standard of Malaysian-made products were on par with foreign brands. The exposition, involving more than 100 exhibitors and 370 stalls, will be held until June 10 at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC). -- BERNAMA
