AMDAC Eyes Middle East Market

By Kenny Teng Khoon Hock KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 (Bernama) -- Amdac (M) Sdn Bhd, a player in the heavy duty and special purpose vehicle sector, plans to penetrate the Middle East market as part of its strategy to grow overseas business. Group CEO M. Rafie Sain said the Middle East offers a lot of potential and the company would promote its new Interchangable Tactical Mobility Systems (ITMS) truck, known as Adiwira, there. "Both Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have shown great interest in our products and I believe it is time that we go for Middle East market," he told Bernama on Wednesday. Currently, Amdac's products are exported to Taiwan, Brunei and Singapore but local sales still account for 70 per cent of the company's total sales. The company's sales target for this year was RM85 million (US$27.7 million), M. Rafie said. "If we manage to secure contracts from Middle East countries, it will be a major boost for us to achieve our target by year-end," he said. Amdac is among 850 companies taking part in the 13th Defence Services Asia (DSA) exhibition, one of the top five defence and security exhibitions in the world, from Apr 16 until 19 here. Formerly known as Pesaka Astana, the wholly-owned Bumiputera company initially involved in the supply of vehicles. Presently, it manufactures customised and specialised vehicles under AMDAC brand name for a diversified clientele. AMDAC Adiwira is assembled at the company's plant in Shah Alam and can be used by the military or fire and rescue department due to its interchangable platform. -- BERNAMA
