Asia, Oceania account for 62% of Iran’s exports

TEHRAN,Dec.27(MNA)--Some 62 percent of Iranian exports are destined to Asia and Oceania, an official with the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI) stated. Ten out of twelve top trading partners of Iran are located in these two continents, Amir Talebi said. Iran has already set up joint trade committees with Pakistan and Turkey and is planning to set up similar committees with Malaysia, India and Afghanistan in the near future, the official said. Iran exported more than 41.1 million tons of goods, worth over $19.3 billion, to Asian countries in the first eight months of the current calendar year (ended November 21), showing respectively 28 percent and 6 percent rise in terms of value and volume compared to the same period last year. Exports to Europe, Africa, America and Oceania stood at $1.4 billion, $318 million, $224 million and $67 million respectively in the mentioned period of time. Previously, TPOI chief Hamid Safdel said the value of non-oil exports is expected to hit $43 billion in the current year and $50.5 billion in the year after.
