Attempts to promote SME products in Germany

BANGKOK, June 12 (TNA) -- Businessmen from Germany’s Magdeburg city want to promote Thai products made by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), said Malee Choklumlerd, director-general of Commerce Ministry’s International Trade Promotion Department. A group of businessmen from Magdeburg visited Thailand recently and held discussions with the department officials on finding possible ways to promote Thai SME products so that the products could penetrate German and the European Union markets and eventually compete in the global market, said Ms Malee. Led by Rainer Nietzsche, deputy mayor for Economic Affairs, Tourism and Regional Cooperation of Magdeburg, and Eberhard J Trempel, honorary trade advisor to Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce in Germany, the businessmen proposed that Thailand ought to join in German trade fairs by displaying Thai goods, especially fashionable and heavy industry merchandises. They also invited Thai businessmen to visit Magdeburg, the second largest city of the state of Saxony-Anhalt, to explore trade opportunities in Germany, said Ms Malee. Her deputy Somdet Susomboon said that fashion products and health care business are doing well in the city and successful businessmen could easily expand businesses to major cities including Hamburg and Berlin.
