Chinese business operators eye to expand investment in Thailand

BANGKOK, September 1 (TNA) - Visiting Chinese business operators from China's coastal Jiangsu Province have expressed their interest in expanding investment projects in Thailand. Thai Industry Minister Atchaka Sibunruang told journalists of the information on Thursday, after meeting with the Chinese business delegation from Jiangsu earlier in the day. Atchaka said issues raised during her talks with the visiting Chinese business operators covered the promotion and exchange of bilateral investment cooperation between China's Jiangsu Province and Thailand. Besides, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Jiangsu (CCPIT), which has cooperated with Thailand through an economic and investment office in Shanghai since 2005 and through the Board of Investment (BOI) of Thailand for 12 years, was also introduced. According to the industry minister, the visiting Jiangsu business delegation was also briefed on Thailand's investment promotion policies. The industry minister noted that she also introduced the Thai government's Eastern Economic Corridor Development Plan to the visiting Chinese business delegation and invited them to invest in 10 targeted industries, known as the new S Curve industries. On the occasion, the industry minister revealed, the Jiangsu business delegation informed that they plan to invest in another mega-project in Thailand, worth about 30 million US dollars. So far, 87 Jiangsu business operators have invested in Thailand, with their investment over the past three years including solar cells production, totally worth 21.61 billion baht. The visiting Chinese business delegation also invited the Thai industry minister to visit Jiangsu soon for further talks on exploring business matching opportunities for both sides. (TNA)
