Chinese Firm To Build US$20 Mln Turbine Plant

Jakarta, Sept 13 (ANTARA) - A Chinese company intends to build a turbine machine plant at a cost of US$20 million in Indonesia in cooperation with a local company, an Industry Ministry official said. The presence of the turbine machine plant is one of the factors supporting the development of the government-funded power plants, the ministry`s director general of high technology-based excellent industry Budi Darmadi said at a hearing with the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VI here on Wednesday. The turbine machine would use European technology, he said. "The products that will be marketed will use European standard and licence from China. With the presence of Chinese turbine machine plant in Indonesia, we will have two turbine plants. The existing turbine plant is operated by Siemens in Bandung in association with aircraft maker PT Dirgantara Indonesia," he said. He said investment in the turbine machine industry would increase the use of domestic products. "The move is one of the government`s efforts to strengthen the use of domestic goods as well as to reduce trade deficit (with China). The project is expected to cost US$20 million," he said. He asked local companies to cooperate with the Chinese company in producing turbines. "We will make an effort to encourage domestic companies to cooperate with the Chinese company in producing turbines of reliable quality," he said.
