Commerce Ministry checks goods prices during Chinese New Year

BANGKOK, Jan 26 (TNA) – The Commerce Ministry asked for cooperation from large-scaled retailers and markets to hold the sales event or provide small sets of offerings as an alternative for consumers during the Chinese New Year. Deputy Commerce Minister Sonthirat Sonthijirawong today led officials of the Internal Trade Department to inspect goods selling at the Yingcharoen market in Saphan Mai area. The Ying Charoen market organised the sales event for consumers goods and Chinese New Year offerings to help consumers relieve burdens on the cost of living. Today, Thais of Chinese descent shopped for food to worship their ancestors. The deputy commerce minister said the ministry’s inspectors worked nationwide to check good prices during this period. The ministry’s survey at the Ying Charoen Market today found overall goods prices did not increased, compared to last year. Pork and vegetable prices stay in the criteria, suggested by the ministry. Anyone, who sell overpriced goods unreasonably faces up to seven years in prison or/and a maximum fine of 140,000 baht, he added. (TNA)
