Commerce Ministry to promote Mukdahan special economic zone

BANGKOK, May 21 (TNA) - The Commerce Ministry plans to attract more investment to the Mukdahan special economic zone by inviting both local and foreign investors to visit Mukdahan. Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantraporn said her ministry has a policy to push Mukdahan as the gateway to other ASEAN countries, particularly Laos, Vietnam and China. She said the provincial commerce office will invite local and foreign businessmen, representatives from chambers of commerce and diplomats to visit the special economic zone in June, so they can gain more information and see potentials and readiness of the province for more investment at the special economic zone. She added targeted industries in the special economic development zone are agriculture and fisheries, electrical appliances and electronics, logistics and tourism-related businesses. In the first four months this year, the border trade in Mukdahan was valued at about 61.5 billion baht, up 94.8 per cent from the same period last year. The growth was partly supported by exports of electronic parts to factories in Savan – Seno Special Economic Zone in Savannakhet province, Lao PDR. (TNA)
