Current Stocks Ample To Meet Demand For Sacrificial Animal

Banyumas, Central Java, Sept 19 (Antara) - The Ministry of Agriculture has guaranteed the availability of sacrificial animals needed for slaughtering during the upcoming Idul Adha sacrificial festivities. "God Willing, sacrificial animal stocks are enough to meet the demand from across the country. The highest demand for sacrificial animals usually comes from the provinces of Banten, West Java and Jakarta," Director General for Animal Husbandry at the Ministry of Agriculture Syukur Iwanto said here on Thursday. Syukur made the remarks during the launch of the Manggala Milch cow rearing farm at the Cipendok village, Colongok in Banyumas District. He added that about 71,000 sacrificial animals were in demand for the Idul Adha sacrificial day in these three provinces. "If the demand for goat, sheep and buffalo is also taken into account, the three provinces (West Java, Bantan and Jakarta) will need some 400,000 sacrificial animals," he pointed out. Syukur further said that his department had assessed the need for sacrificial animals in these three provinces, which could be met with stocks from Jakarta and its buffer towns of Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi (Bodetabek). There was no need to even import cattle. "Sacrificial cattle should come from local products because they should be healthy and free from disability," he noted.
