DPM:Thai exports will be boosted by weakening baht
BANGKOK, March 28 (TNA) - Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Kittirat Na-Ranong has assigned concerned agencies, namely the Bank of Thailand (BOT), to implement measures to contain the appreciation of the Thai baht or to even weaken the Thai currency in order to boost the country's exports.
Kittirat said Wednesday that the government has no policy to keep the Thai currency strong, as it will draw more capital inflows mostly for speculative purposes, which is not constructively beneficial to the Thai economy.
The Thai deputy premier acknowledged that the government, instead, wants the Thai currency to weaken to an appropriate level in order to stimulate the country's export sector and the national economy, assigning all concerned agencies to, therefore, follow the government's policy. (TNA)
