Garmin Offers Free Malaysian Map In GPS Devices In India
By M.Saraswathi
NEW DELHI, May 16 (Bernama) -- Global leader in satellite navigation, Garmin
Corporation is entering the Indian mass market with the launch of portable
global positioning system (GPS) nuvi 40LM and 50LM.
The devices, to be priced US$155.82 (Rs8450) and US$184.23
(Rs9990) respectively, will come with free maps of Singapore and Malaysia, two of
the most visited places by Indian vacationers.
Unlike the other products, the Garmin devices for the Indian market would
have broadcast in Hindi and Indian English.
"Different from traditional navigation devices, which make it difficult to
understand the street name or area because of in-built American accent, Garmin
self-developed technology and was the first to implement Indian accent into
devices," Garmin Asia Marketing Director Tony An said in a statement Wednesday.
"We believe Indian English sounds much more familiar and can be
well-recognised by Indian people. Furthermore, voice guidance in Hindi will
further help in popularising the devices," he said.
The step was also taken to provide easier solution to the users and direct
them to their final destination, said An.
