Global economic crisis made only minor impact on Turkey's economy, Turkish deputy premier says
WARSAW (A.A) - January 22, 2012 - Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan said Saturday that a global economic downturn had only limited fallout on Turkey's economy.
"Turkey is one of the countries to be least affected from the global economic crisis thanks to the structural refoms in public finance and banking sector," Babacan told students in the Vistula University in Warsaw, Poland, adding that Turkey's economy had achieved 9 percent growth rate in 2010 and it grew 8 percent in 2011.
Responding to a question on Turkey's European Union accession bid, Babacan said his country was committed to fulfill obligations that membership required.
"We sincerely believe that time will come for our accession when we fulfill our obligations. Our efforts will surely yield a positive result one day despite certain groups that do not want Turkey in the EU. Turkey's membership will open new dimensions for the Union," Babacan said.
