GPS System Firm to Make Forey into Thailand, Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 (Bernama) -- Milan Utama Sdn Bhd, which launched the 'Lokatoo' Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation system in 2007, plans to make its forey into Indonesia and Thailand by year-end. Executive chairman Wan Saleh Wan Mahmood said the company is planning to set a footprint in both markets and is currently in talks with several parties on this endeavour. Milan on Tuesday signed a collaborative agreement with Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) for further content enhancement in the Lokatoo GPS. "We will replicate our content enhanced model as much as possible to suit the countries' requirements," he told reporters after the signing ceremony. The company expects local sales to grow 20 per cent from approximately 100,000 Lokatoo units sold last year via the collaboration. Milan, a member of Amtel Holdings Bhd, entered into a partnership with TM in 2006 for the development of a Malaysian navigation map. Since its launch, Milan had supplied Lokatoo to car makers Proton Holdings Bhd, Perusahaan Otomoboil Kedua Sdn Bhd and Isuzu Malaysia Sdn Bhd. "We will continuously improve and invest to ensure that we develop a world class product that can meet the demands of the car industry at all times, including in foreign markets," Wan Salleh said. -- BERNAMA
