Huawei to deploy Airtel's 4G network in Indian state of Karnataka

New Delhi, May 1 (PTI) Chinese equipment maker Huawei today said it has been selected by India's largest private telecom operator Bharti Airtel for deploying TD-LTE (4G) network in the southern state of Karnataka. Under the contract, Huawei will plan, design, supply and deploy TD LTE (4G) network in the Karnataka telecom circle for Bharti Airtel, Huawei said in a statement. This will help Airtel customers in the circle to enjoy high speed wireless internet access with bandwidth support for intensive applications, video streaming and high-definition video conferencing. Financial details of the contract were not disclosed. Under the agreement, Huawei will deliver the LTE solution comprising of network infrastructure and devices, it added. "High speed wireless broadband has the potential to transform India, providing a robust platform for building the country's digital economy. With the launch of 4G LTE, Airtel has paved the way for data revolution in the country," Bharti Airtel CEO (India and South Asia) Sanjay Kapoor said. Huawei has already deployed its solutions for Bharti Airtel in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. It also provides support for 3G in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu states to the operator. Bharti Airtel has already launched its broadband wireless access (BWA) services in Kolkata last month using TD-LTE technology and had roped in ZTE for the roll out. The telecom major appointed Nokia Siemens Networks for its Maharashtra circle. Airtel had won BWA spectrum in 2010 for four telecom circles —- Kolkata, Maharashtra, Punjab and Karnataka and had paid Rs 33.14 billion (about USD 64 million) . The company was allocated 20 Mhz of BWA spectrum in 2.3 Ghz frequency band which is considered suitable for transmitting signals for operating 4G services. PTI
