ICT Industry Applauds Digital Malaysia Initiative

KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 (Bernama) -- The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry has applauded the government's move in fostering the industry to be the driver of business, productivity, trade and social development, in the form of the Digital Malaysia initiative. In a statement Friday, Asean Red Hat General Manager Damien Wong said the company viewed the initiative as the Multimedia Development Corp's (MDeC) commitment to enhance the country's global competitiveness. "This is a positive step in creating a vibrant digital ecosystem through innovation and technology," he added. Meanwhile, Autodesk Malaysia Country Manager Tan Choon Sang said businesses could up their game in the global marketplace, by leveraging on emerging digital tools and fast-developing opportunities from infinite computing. Representing the e-commerce community, Rakuten Online Shopping, President and Chief Executive Officer, Masaya Ueno, said the company was encouraged by the government's commitment. "We believe the initiative will strengthen the nation's e-commerce industry and encourage merchants to take advantage of opportunities online, as a natural step for their businesses," he added. Axis Communications Country Manager Nafis Jasmani said with the adoption of the initiative, public safety could also be enhanced, as it would ease the transition of video surveillance into the internet protocol world. "The Digital Malaysia programme is a progressive step to fast forward the country towards a digital economy, and enables Malaysians to adopt technology into every facet of their lives," said Norton Symantec Vice President, Symantec Consumer Business for Asia Pacific and Japan, David Freer. Zulkifli Md Ghairi, the Country Manager of CA IT Infrastructure Solutions Sdn Bhd, said ICT would provide companies with the necessary tools to manage cost and risk, reduce delivery cycle times and enable increased productivity. In response to the Digital Malaysia programme, Cisco Malaysia Managing Director Yuri Wahab said a digital economy would result in increased productivity, efficiency and innovation. -- BERNAMA
