India Defiant With US Sanctions About Purchasing Oil From Iran

New Delhi, Jan 18, IRNA – India Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai said his country will continue to buy oil from Iran in spite of US sanctions. Mathai told reporters here on Tuesday afternoon that India will not follow US sanctions against Iran. 'We have accepted UN imposed sanctions, but not sanctions imposed by a sole country,' said Mathai. He referred to examples from other European countries and said, for instance, Greece will continue to purchase oil from Iran. To guarantee supply of oil from Iran without stop, India sent a high ranking delegation from ministries of Oil, Finance and Central Bank to Tehran to discuss financial exchange issues./end
