Indonesia invites foreign investors to invest in energy sector

Jakarta, Mei 30 (Antara) - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Arifin Tasrif encouraged foreign investors to invest in various energy transition projects in Indonesia. During his visit to Germany to attend the G7 Climate meeting on May 26-27, 2022, he met with two officials from Siemens Energy and HMS Bergbau AG, two major German companies, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry's Official Agung Pribadi noted. The meeting was a follow-up on the previous meeting held at the end of March, he explained through a statement on Saturday. The meeting highlighted the cooperation between Siemens Energy and state-run enterprise Pertamina Power in the development of renewable energy in Indonesia. During the meeting, the minister informed that Indonesia continues to encourage investment in renewable energy and is committed to reaching carbon neutrality by 2060 or even faster. In 2030, Indonesia has set a target of adding power plants that only rely on the uses of new and renewable sources, including hydrogen. Until 2060, Indonesia's electric supply will entirely come from new and renewable energy sources. Indonesia requires the collaboration with Siemens Energy to help push the development of solar power plant technology, smart grid, energy storage, hydrogen development technology, and electric vehicles. Tasrif also lauded the company and awaits its participation in the development of renewable energy in Indonesia. It is expected that the memorandum of understanding between the two parties can be signed during the G20 Energy Transition Ministerial Meeting in Bali in September, he noted. Meanwhile, Siemens Energy expressed its interest in supporting the development of energy sector in Indonesia's new capital city, Nusantara. It has experience in new urban development in Egypt, not just in the development of renewable energy, but also in the development of education facilities and capacity building for supporting human capital. On a separate occasion, Germany expressed its interest in cooperating with Indonesia regarding coal supplies.
