Indonesian electronic company to sell power to Vanimo, PNG

Jayapura, Papua, June 11 (Antara) - The state-owned electricity company (PLN) for Papua and West Papua regions (WP2B) will sell part of the power generated by the Holtekam steam power plant located in Jayapura, Papua, to Vanimo city, Papua New Guinea. "Once the Holtekam power plant is completed, we will be selling 2 megawatts of electricity to Vanimo," PLN WP2B General Manager Robert Sitorus noted here on Thursday. This sale is conducted as a follow up to the cooperation agreement reached between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, which includes the sale of electricity from Indonesia. "The sale of electricity will strengthen the relations between the two countries," he affirmed. Furthermore, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea will collaborate to build an electricity network in the border area of Skouw, Jayapura, where the process of buying and selling will occur. "PLN will build the electricity network that will reach the border area. PNG will continue the electricity network from the border area to Vanimo. That is where the sale will take place," Sitorus explained. He remarked that from a business standpoint, PLN will garner benefits although, until now, no agreement has been reached between both sides regarding the price. "The price will be determined later. Obviously, we will sell electricity at above the production cost," Sitorus stated.
