Initial inspection finds two pig farms use Beta-agonist
BANGKOK, Aug 1 (TNA) – Livestock officials found two pig farms in Chachoengsao used Beta agonist, according to initial urine test of the animals.
About 1,000 pigs were seized during the inspection.
Acting Director General of the Livestock Development Department Sorawit Thanito ordered the inspection at pig farms to crack down on the use of banned substances in cattle production to help animals deposit more lean muscle.
About 100 officials inspected five pig farms and eight slaughter houses in the provincial seat of Chachaoengsao.
The on-site urine sample tests showed two farms use the banned Beta agonists, so officials seized about 1,000 pigs.
More lab tests will be conducted for confirmation before legal action will be taken against the farm owners.
The inspection at the slaughter houses found no Beta agonist residue in pork.
The director-general said more inspection will be conducted to cover all pork producing and selling areas for the safety of consumers. Violators of the Animal Feed Quality Control Act face three years in jail and/or a maximum fine of 60,000 baht. (TNA)
