Iran’s energy industry embargo ‘like a joke’: NIGEC head
TEHRAN, Nov. 30 (MNA)-- Considering the world’s dire need to Iran’s energy resources, imposing sanctions on the country’s energy industry is like a joke, the National Iranian Gas Exports Company (NIGEC)’s managing director said.
“I think taking such measures will have more negative outcomes for those (countries which have imposed sanctions). Such sanctions will never practically come into effect, because they are rooted in political issues” Hossein Bidarmaghz told.
Their essential need to Iran’s sources of energy will lead such measures to failure, Bidarmaghz emphasized.
The United States, Britain and Canada announced new measures against Iran's energy and financial sectors on November 21, and France proposed new sanctions, including the freezing of Central Bank of Iran assets and suspending the purchase of Iranian oil.
