TEHRAN, Nov. 22 (MNA)-- Iran is planning to increase its power electricity generation capacity by 5,000 megawatts by end of spring next year, the deputy energy minister said.
The country’s installed power capacity is currently about 64,000 megawatts, Mohammd Behzad told .
He added that according to the fifth five-year development plan (2010-2015), 10 percent of the country’s power electricity should be generated through renewable sources of energy.
Behzad predicted that the country’s electricity exports would amount to $1 billion by the end of the current calendar year (March 20, 2012).
Iran currently exchanges electricity with Turkey, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq.
