Jakarta Airport Rail Line Expected To Operate In 2014

Jakarta, Dec 14 (ANTARA) - The Jakarta government is targeting to complete the construction of the Soekarno Hatta International airport rail line by early 2014. "We are hoping to make the rail line service operational in early 2014," Deputy Transportation Minister Bambang Susantono said here on Friday. The rail line from Jakarta to Tangerang is currently under construction. After the construction is completed, Jakarta city centre will be directly connected with the Soekarno Hatta airport. State railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia is working in coordination with government-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura to complete the project on time. �The commuter line from Soekarno Hatta airport will be connected with the city`s commuter lines, such as those in Manggarai and Sudirman,� Bambang noted. He said Jakarta�s traffic congestion problem �cannot be eliminated entirely but can be reduced with proper management�. "If we improve our public transport facilities, I am sure people will increasingly use public transportation," Bambang added.
