Job preservation for workers

Karaganda, 29 November 2008 (Khabar) - Job preservation for workers of “Arcelor Mittal Temirtau”. At a meeting with the head of the Karaganda region Nurlan Nigmatulin, the head of the “Arcelor Mittal Temirtau” company Frank Pannir confirmed the intention of the company’s administration to follow the memorandum on the provision of the workforce with continued work. The two sides discussed the realization of the main points of the memorandum, and in particular, the issue about the employment of the company’s employees. According to the document, which was ratified in Astana, investors have promised not to reduce the number of staff. Mister Pannir said that a recruitment program is currently underway. New recruits are to be involved in training, construction and repair works and also employment at a specially created security agency.

- I want to once again note that we will follow the memorandum which our company ratified with the government about 3-4 weeks ago. Currently, I do not see any improvements but we are maintaining our liabilities and are not going to reduce staff at the plants in Temirtau or Karaganda. The head of state initiated the ratification of a memorandum with all large companies.
