Korea Keen To Strengthen Ties With M'sia, Inks MoU With MIGHT
KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 (Bernama) -- Korean public and private organisations in
science and technology industries are keen to strengthen relations with Malaysia
especially in green technology, energy and transportation sectors.
That was the message received by representatives of the Malaysian
Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), an agency in the
Malaysian Prime Minister’s Department, and the private sector on their visit to
the country last week.
"There is a great deal of synergy between our two Asian countries in the
fields of renewable energy, shipbuilding, aerospace and railway industries,"
said MIGHT President and Chief Executive Officer, Mohd Yusoff Sulaiman, in a
statement on Tuesday.
"Our on-going exchanges with Korean organisations such as the Korean
Institute for Science and Technology Evaluation and Planning (KISTEP) and the
Korean Institute for Advanced Technology (KIAT) are immensely value adding for
our role in advancing high technology competency in Malaysia," he added.
The week-long visit included stops in Seoul and Gyeongnam where delegates
from Boustead Naval Shipyard, Sentech, Scomi and 14 others met with
Hyundai-Rotem, Daewoo, Korean Aerospace Industries, S-Energy and a host of
government-to-government partners.
In Seoul, MIGHT signed a Memorandum of Understanding with KIAT committing
both organisations to closer cooperation in collaborative research and
development, human resource development and training, and continued reciprocal
support of trade and investment missions.
"Beyond the important sharing of insights and experiences the delegation has
played an active role in promoting technology-driven business ventures between
Malaysia and Korea in high technology sectors that contribute to the Economic
Transformation Programme," said Mohd Yusoff.
Mission objectives to support technology-driven business ventures were
discussed during a business-to-business roundtable hosted by the Gyeongnam
Technology Park and the provincial government.
Talks focused primarily on closer industrial cooperation in aerospace, rail
and maritime industries where Malaysia and Korea both have significant strengths
and participation in the global market place.
Sessions in Gyeongnam also included an audience with Governor Kim Du Kwan
for top management of MIGHT.
"MIGHT has continued to foster stronger and more participatory cooperation
with Korea both through the public and private sectors.
"The joint commitment of both the government and private companies makes
Korea a fantastic match for our Malaysian technology companies looking to expand
their footprint abroad through cooperation with global leaders," Mohd Yusoff
said.
