Lubna Al Qasimi discusses cooperation with International Committee of the Red Cross

ABU DHABI, 17th September, 2015 (WAM) -- Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development, MICAD, and head of the UAE Committee for the Coordination of Humanitarian Foreign Aid, has emphasised that the UAE, under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has become a pivotal and supportive state of international humanitarian organisations in order to provide humanitarian support for all affected individuals in the countries and regions experiencing military conflicts. This came during a meeting yesterday at MICAD's headquarters in Abu Dhabi when Sheikha Lubna met with Mohammed Yahya Al-Eleibi, Head of the International Mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross of the Gulf Cooperation Council of the Arab State, GCC, and his accompanying delegation. Sheikha Lubna said that the UAE's efforts reflect its effective and influential role in providing humanitarian support and guiding relief convoys to the sisterly Yemeni people in their current plight. She stressed that the strengthening of international efforts for active humanitarian intervention during conflicts and wars stems essentially from the importance of compliance with the terms and the decisions of international humanitarian law, which serves as a legislative international umbrella for humanitarian considerations during times of conflict. The meeting included a review of the UAE's humanitarian efforts to provide various methods of relief and alleviation of suffering of the sisterly people of Yemen as a result of attacks by Houthis and rebel groups, to ensure compliance with the terms of international humanitarian law. In this regard, Sheikha Lubna stressed the active role of the UAE's humanitarian organisations through their presence and active role for the relief teams of the ERC in many areas, including the Yemeni areas experiencing conflicts. She noted that that the UAE's humanitarian intervention in Yemen stems from the humanitarian philosophy and vision of its wise leadership and its commitment towards the support of all those who are affected by humanitarian crises. For his part, Yahya Al-Eleibi stressed the International Committee of the Red Cross' appreciation of the humanitarian efforts of the UAE at the global level, expressing the Committee's aspiration through the efforts of the regional mission to support the visions and channels of cooperation with the UAE and GCC countries, especially through the effective coordination between the parties to the humanitarian situation in Yemen. He extended thanks to the UAE's wise leadership for its support for global humanitarian work and its harnessing of many resources and capabilities in order to achieve this noble goal.
