Malaysia Airlines and Petron Sign Agreement for A380 Fuel Supply
SUBANG (Selangor,Malaysia), July 2 (Bernama) -- Petron Malaysia Sdn Bdn,
formerly known as Esso Malaysia Bhd, and Malaysia Airlines (MAS) have signed a
deal on June 29 to supply and purchase fuel on a mutually favourable rate for
the national carrier's entire Airbus A380 flagship fleet for six months.
Petron Corporation Chairman Ramon Ang said Petron was honoured to partner
MAS which was one of the world's few elite airlines that operated the Airbus
A380.
"The trust given to us by one of the world's leading airlines serves to
strengthen our commitment to bring world-class fuels and services to the market
and the supply of fuel under this special arrangement beginning July 1," said
Ramon, who is also Petron Chief Executive Officer.
Nevertheless, to celebrate the new relationship, Petron provided
complimentary fuel for MAS' inaugural A380 flight MH2 from Kuala Lumpur to
London on Sunday night.
Meanwhile, MAS Group Chief Executive Officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said the
national airline was happy to have found a supportive partner that was equally
committed to the eco-friendly requirements of the Airbus A380.
"We are proud to say that MAS A380 is fuelled by Petron," he added.
MAS received the first A380 aircraft at KL International Airport on Friday
and began preparations for its inaugural flight on Sunday.
On June 5, MAS also enjoyed fuel supply from Petron when it hosted staff and
guests on its A380 route proving flight-cum-joyride, which included VIP guest
Dr Mahathir Mohammed.
