MBCQ Aims To Boost Interactions Between M'sia, Qatar Businesses

DOHA (Qatar), May 2 (Bernama) -- The establishment of the Malaysian Business Council in Qatar (MBCQ) will provide a platform for more intensive interactions between Malaysian and Qatar businesses. Pro-tem committee president Redzuan Ismail hoped the effort would contribute positively to the future prospects of Malaysian companies by gaining a foothold in Qatar, increased Qatari investments in Malaysia as well as undertaking joint investments in third world countries. "The country is not fully developed yet. This is the time for Malaysian companies to come to Qatar and start their businesses," he told reporters after a discussion and networking session with Malaysian businessmen, here Wednesday. He said the idea for the establishment of MBCQ was originated by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak during his meeting with Qatar prime minister here last year. "They have initiated certain agreement on bilateral relationship including the establishment of the business council," he said. Redzuan said the establishment of the MBCQ has been verbally approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs last month and the business council will have an annual general meeting later this year to elect members of the executive committee. The business council will act as a facilitator for Malaysian businessmen to do business in Qatar as well as for Qatari businessmen to venture into Malaysia, he said. It is encouraging Malaysian companies, especially those related to construction and services sectors, to establish their businesses in Qatar and capitalise on the opportunities arising from rapid development in Qatar, which is still under-developed as it is hosting the Fifa World Cup in 2020. --BERNAMA
