MCOT HD wins Thailand Energy Awards 2018
BANGKOK, August 28 (TNA) - Television Channel 9 MCOT HD, run by MCOT Public Company Limited (MCOT), has won the Thailand Energy Awards 2018 for its role model in promoting the energy conservation and the use of alternative energy in the country.
Deputy Prime Minister Air Chief Marshal Prajin Jantong presided over an event to present the Thailand Energy Awards 2018 to the MCOT HD T.V. station and other 68 winning agencies in Bangkok on August 27.
Addressing the event, the deputy prime minister said the development of alternative energy is a key policy of the Thai government in order to upgrade the domestic consumption of energy and relevant raw materials more efficiently and to reduce the country's dependence on imported energy.
Besides, the constructive development of alternative energy through innovations that can be adopted by the domestic industrial and business sectors helps reduce their costs and enhance their competitiveness, while also strengthening the national energy security.
The deputy prime minister acknowledged that the Thailand Energy Awards Program is also a measurement showing the level of success of both the Thai public and private sectors in their joint cooperation in the determined development of alternative energy and the use of energy more efficiently towards a goal of turning Thailand to become a leading nation in the ASEAN Community (AC) for energy conservation and the use of alternative energy to be in line with the government's Thailand 4.0 Policy and to be globally recognized.
Thai Energy Minister Siri Jirapongphan announced, meanwhile, that all the 69 winning agencies, out of a total of 268 contestants, of the Thailand Energy Awards 2018, the 19th of its kind organized by his ministry's Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, have helped conserve the energy more than 730 million baht totally a year and reduce the carbon dioxide by more than 140,000
tons totally a year.
Praphon Wongtharua, Director General of the Department of Alternative Energy Development, stated that more private firms joined the contest this year, showing their increasing awareness in the use of alternative energy more efficiently, paving the way for Thailand to become a world leader in the promotion of energy conservation and
the use of alternative energy.
According to the senior official, the Thailand Energy Awards 2018 are divided into five categories, including the potential alternative energy (17 prizes), energy conservation (32 prizes), energy personnel (10 prizes), creative energy (one prize) and the role model in promoting energy conservation and the use of alternative energy (nine prizes).
The senior official revealed that his ministry is also selecting 25 outstanding Thai projects on the energy conservation and the use of alternative energy to join in an ASEAN-level contest in Singapore in October 2018.
