Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia Records 66 Per Cent Jump In Sales Volume For FY2021

KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 (Bernama) -- Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM), the official distributor of Mitsubishi Motors vehicles in Malaysia, recorded sales of 19,217 units for the financial year ended March 2022 (FY2021), a 66 per cent jump from the previous year. In a statement Thursday, it said the better performance, despite the shrinking of total industry volume (TIV) by 6.7 per cent year-on-year, places the company in the top three spots of the non-national automotive category. The company said for FY2021, it sold 9,420 units of Triton pick-up truck, a 24 per cent increase compared to the previous financial year. "The robust Mitsubishi Triton pick-up truck is also maintaining a solid market share of close to 21.4 per cent and remains one of the favourite choices within the pick-up truck segment despite healthy competition from its newly launched rivals. "The Mitsubishi XPANDER continues to dominate the non-national MPV segment in Malaysia, and also leads the sales for the Mitsubishi Motors brand. The seven-seater crossover has closed the financial year with 9,065 units sold, which contributed 47.2 per cent to the company’s overall total sales," it said. MMM chief executive officer Shinya Ikeda said the company is aware that a large number of customers have aimed to purchase cars before the sales and services tax (SST) exemption expires by end of June; hence it has already increased the production capacity while maintaining a high level of product quality. He noted that there were many hurdles for the industry to overcome, so the sales performance is a significant triumph for MMM. "In general, the past two years have been tough on the automotive industry, not only with the rising cases of Omicron but floods that affected the Klang Valley and East Coast region, as well as parts or chips shortage. "We take this chance to thank the Malaysian government for initiating and extending the SST exemption these last couple of years. With this, our customers could enjoy extra savings while it also gives us the time to fulfil all booking orders made," he said. -- BERNAMA
