M'sian Firms Rake In Higher Sales Worth US$42.84 Million At Canton Fair
KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's participation at the recent
Canton Fair generated higher sales of US$42.84 million (RM135.3 million), an
increase of 211 per cent compared with its first participation in October 2011.
In a statement Wednesday, chief executive officer of Malaysia External Trade
Development Corporation (Matrade), Dr Wong Lai Sum said the Canton Fair was an
important strategic platform to connect Malaysian exporters to international and
Chinese buyers.
For the second time, Matrade coordinated the participation of 45 Malaysian
exhibitors at Phase 3 of the Canton Fair or China Import and Export Fair, which
was held for five days from May 1, 2012.
The key sectors promoted at the Malaysia Pavilion were food and beverage,
medical, health and beauty care products, which received some 3,880 enquiries
during the exhibition.
The Canton Fair, the biggest exhibition in China, is held biannually in
Guangzhou every spring and autumn, with a long history of 55 years.
Following this success, Matrade said it will continue to organise the
Malaysia pavilion at the next phase, the autumn 112th Canton Fair which will be
held for five days from Oct 31, 2012.
Malaysian companies interested to participate are advised to register early
through Matrade's website at www.matrade.gov.my.
