Pelindo To Expand Container Square Of ternate Port

Ternate, N Maluku, Jan 16 (ANTARA) - The Ternate branch of state port operator PT Pelindo said it will expand the parking square for container cargoes at the Ahmad Yani port to accommodate growing flows of container cargoes via the port. A manager of the Ternate branch of PT Pelindo Tjahyo Wibowo said here Wednesday the container parking place at the port is only 14,000 square meters, too small for the growing flows of container cargoes to be loaded and unloaded at the port. Therefore, PT Pelindo will expand the container parking place this year to reach 3,000 sq. m., Tjahyo said Expansion would be made through reclamation of the sea water covered coastal land at the southern, he said. The project will be financed with fund from the Central Government, he said. In 2012, container cargoes coming in and going out via the port totaled 32,516 units , up from 25,850 units in 2011, he said. The increasing trend is expected to continue in the coming years, he said, adding PT Pelindo, therefore, has to expand the square and fix the berthing place in the port.
