Petrol retailers in Thailand step up marketing campaigns
BANGKOK, June 20 (TNA) - Lower oil prices are resulting in higher consumption and intensified marketing campaigns by petrol retailers in Thailand.
As oil prices have dropped since mid-2014, the daily consumption of petrol in Thailand rose from 20 million liters to 28.31 million liters in April, 2016.
The consumption of diesel alone went up from 60 million liters to 63.64 million liters a day, while the consumption of liquefied and natural gas
for vehicles is declining.
Many oil retailers in Thailand are, thus, stepping up their marketing campaigns to woo customers with PTT spending 300 million baht this year, from 200 million baht previously, on maintaining its 40 per cent market share, the biggest in the country, and Esso introducing member cards and spending 200 million baht on marketing this year.
Auttapol Rerkpiboon, PTT’s Senior Executive Vice President for Oil Business, predicted on June 19 that oil consumption in the country should grow by 6 per cent this year due to lower global oil prices and tourism promotions.
Auttapol noted that PTT is also expanding aircraft fuel sales in many countries, including South Korea, Indonesia, Japan, China and Malaysia, with the sales having risen to 150 million liters a year, worth more than 1 billion baht. (TNA)
