Plan to develop Rong Kluea Market

BANGKOK, June 5 (TNA) -- The Commerce Ministry plans to develop the Rong Kluea Market in Sa Kaeo prvince bordering Cambodia in eastern Thailand as the market hub in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) after launching successful suppression against products violating copyright law there, said Minister Apiradi Tantraporn. Ms Apiradi said 21 concerned agencies had joined the ministry in the suppression operation and several vendors at Rong Kleua Market have now changed their occupations to either selling second-hand products or goods made under the ‘One Tambon One Product’ (OTOP) programme. Business at the once bullish shopping market is now sluggish, she said, adding that her ministry has joined forces with other government agencies and the private sector in trying to revive the business there by making Rong Kluea Market the “ASEAN market hub and also goods distribution centre to Cambodia and Vietnam.” The plan would meet the government’s goal in making Sa Kaeo province a special economic zone, said Ms Apiradi.
