Polish Airlines LOT in a critical geographic position for us, says Director General of Turkish Airlines

ISTANBUL (A.A) - Director General of Turkey's national air carrier Turkish Airlines (THY), Temel Kotil, said Wednesday that the executive board of the THY expressed their desire to conduct talks with Polish Airlines LOT for a possible partnership in the future. Speaking to reporters at a blood donation campaign at Istanbul's Ataturk International Airport, Temel Kotil said that "Polish Airlines LOT was in a critical geographic position for us". When reminded by journalists that LOT was a company losing money, Kotil said that "we are only at the beginning of the process. We have not bought LOT yet. There is only a decision of the THY executive board to begin a process of talks with LOT. We will not buy a company from which we can not profit. With that, LOT's geographical position is highly important for the THY". Turkish Airlines is the national flag carrier airline of Turkey, headquartered in Istanbul. It operates scheduled services to 146 international and 41 domestic cities (38 domestic airports), serving a total of 187 airports, in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas.  THY carried 32.6 million passengers in January-December, 2011.
