RI Should Benefit From APEC Summit To Improve Its Economy
Denpasar, Bali, Oct 3 (Antara) - The Indonesian delegation should be able to benefit from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit 2013 in Bali to improve the national economy, said an economist.
"(The Indonesian delegation) can do so by encouraging other APEC members to buy more products from Indonesia," explained Gede Sudibia on Thursday.
To benefit from the APEC market, the government must adopt economic policies capable of developing the domestic industries to the maximum level possible, he said.
Many commodities, including palm oil, coal, and rubber, are exported in the form of semi-finished goods, he added.
Gede Sudibia, who is also an economic management consultant, noted that there have been no outstanding industries since state aircraft manufacturer IPTN (now PTDI) changed its role and responsibilities.
"There is no clear goal on the development of industries and it is not supported by adequate infrastructure," Gede Sudibia pointed out.
Therefore, Indonesia should benefit from the APEC Summit, which will be held from October 7 to 8, to improve its economy by adopting policies on the development of domestic industries, he said.
In addition, it should also improve the competitiveness of its products to gain entry into the global market, he said.
