Rostec to set up production of multipurpose helicopter in India - company

MOSCOW, December 28. /TASS/. Russian state-owned corporation Rostec and India’s HAL will set up a joint venture in India for manufacturing of Ka-226T multipurpose helicopter, Rostec said on Monday. Russia signed an agreement on cooperation in helicopter production with India earlier within the framework of the official visit of India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Moscow. "According to the document, Rostec will organize production of the Russian helicopter Ka-226T and its modifications in India. The agreement also provides for servicing, operation, repair of helicopters and their maintenance support," Rostec said. About 200 helicopters may be produced yearly, a source close to Rostec said. "The program may be expanded later on; the parties are viewing an opportunity for joint entry to third party markets. A competitive advantage of Rostec is that we are not merely ready to export helicopters to India but offer localization of production technologies to our partner," Chief Executive Officer of Rostec Sergei Chemezov said. The light multipurpose Ka-226T helicopters can be used as a passenger one with 7 seats capacity and is also used for transportation [capable of carrying 1 tonne of cargo], in operations of medical services, search and rescue missions and in police.
