Sanctions made Iran self-sufficient in electricity industry: Iranian official

TEHRAN,Nov. 19 (MNA)-- Iranian deputy energy minister said the Western sanctions not only have had no negative impact on Iran’s electricity industry, but have accelerated the move toward self-sufficiency in the electricity industry. Mohammad Behzad also said that Iran is currently constructing huge water and power projects in many countries in the world. Iran`s Minister of Energy Majid Namjoo had said that Iranian specialists are highly professional in electricity industry. He said that this success is due to the Islamic revolution, because before that the industry was run by foreigners. Now Iran is the top electricity producer in the region and has the capacity to produce more than 60,000MW of electricity, he said. Iran exchanges electricity with all of its land neighbors and will soon connect its power grid to the Persian Gulf littoral states as well as Europe via Turkey.
