Six banks to jointly set up card-receiving machines

BANGKOK, June 12 (TNA) -- Six Thai commercial banks have, for the first time, cooperated to jointly establish more than 400,000 card-receiving machines which would help them reduced operational costs and simultaneously support the government’s National e-Payment Master Plan programme. The six banks including government-run Krung Thai Bank Public Co, Ltd and the Government Savings Bank along with Bank of Ayudhya Pcl, TMB Bank Pcl, Siam Commercial Bank Pcl and Thanachart Bank Pcl have joined forces to install more than 400,000 machines nationwide which would also help business operators cut down expenses in installing such machine and most importantly, to spur spending by the people in line with the government’s policy. The plan calls for the banks to install machines at private enterprises and government agencies, approved by the Finance Ministry, to facilitate the public. Besides from accepting credit and debit cards, the machine could perform several special functions offering by the six banks. However, the six banks are still awaiting the conclusion from the Finance Ministry on which agency would take responsibility on the programme. (TNA)
