SMEs To Tap Into GE Energy's US$250 Mln Regional Procurement In Oil And Gas Sector
KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 (Bernama) -- Local small and medium enterprises
(SMEs) will have the opportunity to tap into the GE Energy's US$250 million
regional procurement in the oil and gas sector this year.
GE Energy Country Executive Pahmi Mokhtar said the company was actively
looking at the Asean region now, including Malaysia, to tap into the local SMEs'
expertise and know-how in the sector.
"In Asean, we are looking at US$250 million a year for oil and gas
procurement, that's the size of the cake.
"In Malaysia, we are just starting. We've been doing quite a bit of
procurement in the past to support our contracts in the country.
"But what we are talking today is a little bit different, more to regional
procurement and I think we are looking at Malaysia as one of our suppliers," he
told reporters after the opening of a seminar on business opportunities in oil
and gas with GE Malaysia here on Wednesday.
The seminar, hosted by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation,
also attended by the national trade promotion agency's Chief Executive Officer
Dr Wong Lai Sum.
Asked on the procurement size that SMEs can tap into, he said: "We've to
see. We're just doing the starting up of looking into the region more closely."
