Tata Motors Plans To Build Car Factory In Indonesia

Jakarta, Sept 13 (ANTARA) - The government welcomes plans of India`s car maker Tata Motors to build a factory in Indonesia in 2013 to produce low cost and environmentally friendly cars. Tata Motors claims to be the champion in the production of cheap and environmentally friendly cars in India, Industry Minister M.S Hidayat said here Thursday. However, the government is still studying the specifications of cars to be produced by Tata, Hidayat said. Currently the government could not ban investment from flowing into the country, but the government wants to give priority to local car makers to produce cheap cars, he said. Budi Darmadi, the director general for high technology industries, said Tata Motors has yet to discuss with the government details of its investment plan. Budi said Tata would conduct market test before embarking on the expensive venture in the country .
