Thai Cabinet nods for boat service on Lancang, Mekong Rivers

BANGKOK, December 28 (TNA) - The Thai Cabinet has approved a 10-year plan to launch an international boat service on the Lancang and Mekong Rivers, aimed to facilitate goods transport from China to Thailand. Vice Minister Attached to the Prime Minster's Office Kobsak Phutrakul told journalists of the decision, after the Cabinet's weekly meeting on December 27. Kobsak said the main objective of the 10-year plan, during 2015-2025, is to develop a safe 631-kilometre-international marine logistics route that will benefit goods transport in Chiang Rai Province in the Thai North. The vice minister stated that China will sponsor all the construction cost of ports along the new cross-border marine route, linking southern China with northern Thailand via Laos. (TNA)
