Thailand-Bhutan Festival to be held next March

BHUTAN, Dec 11 (TNA) -- ‘Thailand-Bhutan Festival’ will be organised in Bhutan next March, aimed at strengthening tourism relations between the two countries, said Thai Deputy Prime Minister Gen Tanasak Patimapragorn. His remarks were made following a meeting between him and Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay while he is visiting Bhutan. Thai cultural shows, including boxing, will be displayed and while the Thai government is considering to strengthen bilateral tourism relations, concerned Bhutanese officials will be invited to visit Thailand to meet on a project called the ‘Two Kingdoms One Destination,’ said Gen Tanasak. He said the Thai government may raise steep tax currently imposed on Thai tourists visiting Bhutan during the discussion. The two countries have signed a memorandum of understanding on tourism cooperation, but no progress has been made so far, said Gen Tanasak. According to Gen Tanasak, Mr Tobgay commended Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha during the meeting and several Thai projects such as ‘One Tambon One Product’ (OTOP) are being implemented by Bhutan. Skilled Thai workers and teachers teaching Thai language are now sent to Bhutan to teach the language on a regular basis, said Gen Tanasak. (TNA)
