Thailand's energy supply not affected by Myanmar's quake
BANGKOK, August 25 (TNA) - PTT Public Company Limited (PTT), Thailand's largest petroleum firm, confirms that its energy supply systems nationwide, including natural gas pipelines, have not been affected by a powerful earthquake in Myanmar on August 24.
PTT Spokesman Auttapol Rerkpiboon, who is also the company's Senior Executive Vice President for Oil Business Unit, made the confirmation on Thursday, following the 6.8-magnitude earthquake, which hit Myanmar on Wednesday evening.
Auttapol stressed that the strong tremor in Myanmar, with its epicentre located about 400 kilometres away from the Thai North, has not seriously affected Thailand's energy supply systems, including natural gas pipelines in the west of the country and a main natural gas station in the central Ratchaburi Province, both of which are located closest to Myanmar.
According to the senior vice president, PTT's natural gas pipelines are able to withstand a tremor with up to 6.7 magnitude if its epicentre is
near a gas pipeline system and up to 8-magnitude if its epicentre is at least 25 kilometres away.
The senior vice president noted that drills carried out by PTT's relevant personnel have also helped its each energy site to be well-prepared for such the situation. (TNA)
