Thailand's extended green-line electric train route set to serve public by 2020

BANGKOK, April 3 (TNA) - Commuters in Thailand can enjoy new electric train rides on the extended green-line route, linking Bangkok's main Mo Chit bus terminal with Lam Luk Ka area in neighbouring Pathum Thani Province, over the next five years. Peerayudh Singpatanakul, Governor of the state-run Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), on Friday inked a contract with four firms winning a bidding contest on the co-construction of the extended 19-kilometre electric rail tracks, including Italain-Thai Development Co.Ltd., UN-SH-CH joint venture, STEC-AS-3 joint venture and the STEC-As-4 joint venture. The extended green-line electric train links Bangkok's main Mo Chit bus terminal with Ku Kot area in Lam Luk Ka District of Pathum Thani Province, passing through Saphan Mai area, with its construction cost of about 28.79 billion-baht and set to begin in June 2015. The elevated Mo Chit-Saphan Mai-Ku Kot route will pass through 16 staions. The extended green-line electric train service is seen to help ease traffic congestion along its route and further improve people's quality of life once it is launched, scheduled for 2020. (TNA)
