Turkey's E&E Firms To Visit M'sia To Expand Business Engagement In Asia
KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 (Bernama) -- As part of Turkey's broader business
engagement with Asia, a strong trade mission comprising prominent companies in
that country's electrical and electronics (E&E) industry will visit Malaysia.
The three-day visit from May 30 will be led by the Istanbul Electric and
Electronics Machinery and ICT Exporters' Association and supported by the Turkey
Ministry of Economy.
"This is more than a trade mission, it’s the first step in the establishment
of partners in Malaysia for this important sector.
"Malaysia and Turkey are in the midst of concluding a free trade agreement.
One of the sectors that will benefit the most from this agreement will be
the E&E sector.
"This will be a deciding factor for many companies on this mission as they
are looking for regional partners in Asean," said the Turkey's Ambassador to
Malaysia, Serap Ataay, in a statement Friday.
She expects Malaysian companies to partner with Turkish manufacturers in
this sector to compete for business.
"With a global total export of over US$12 billion (RM37.7 billion), the sector
provides not only considerable amount of employment but also competitive advantage.
"In the region, last year's trade volume in this sector was over US$200
million (RM628.64 million) and we estimate that this will double in the next
12 months due to the large projects taking place in the region, requiring these
products and the expertise our companies have," she said.
Companies in the delegation will be cable manufacturers (energy and
telecommunications); electricity generation and distribution equipment; small
household appliances; and provider of turnkey solutions to cable and hot rolling
mill automation systems sectors.
A full day trade development programme, which includes an industry briefing,
business matching and gala dinner will be held at a prominent hotel here on May
30.
Meanwhile, Gleanreagh Managing Director Nordin Abdullah said the Malaysia
Global Business Forum was pleased to work with Turkey in various industries.
"In this respect, Malaysia and Turkey can leverage on each others'
strengths. This event will be a great opportunity to tighten one step further
the bilateral relations between the two countries," he added. (US$1 = RM3.143)
